I appreciate the contributions of everyone who commented on yesterdays journal, and I still am reading over and answering those comments. However, this morning, I have been.. brainstorming!

I might update this a few times to get all of my thoughts in (I'm at work, and frequently have to shut the internet down to do stuff ).

But anyways, thinking on the subject of yesterday, I suddenly remembered that good old letter from the writer of some important document *hint hint*, which mentions Separation of Church and State. This idea, while not written in the Constitution itself, is, yes, part of it.

Now, what does this boil down to. Does this just qualify for the state, or does it also apply for the government itself? Based on the particular wording, probably the entire government. Either way, think about it. This country was founded for religious reasons (religious tolerance, in fact), but seems to be dominated by only one.

And suddenly, when did this one religion get to say yay or nay to certain things, and have them make their way into actual written laws? Isn't that in violation of the Constitution?

I'm not just talking about same-sex marriage anymore. What about polygamy? What about two adults that are related, who have consensual sex with each other? I would even mention the rather ridiculous law Texas has regarding sexual toys, except that law has been recently revoked by the federal government (Finally, some sense here!)

What I'm asking is, is this some sort of violation? Polygamy is not allowed because it does not adhere to the same standards as Christian marriages (and a few other religions, but you know who the big one is). It's denying those who are part of particular Mormon sects, and even some who practice Islam of part of their own religion, is that unconstitutional in the views of 'religious tolerance' and the separation of church and state?

Same thing about the two related adults. If they are of legal age, and for whatever reason, want to have a fling or even get married, they, in the eyes of the 'law', cannot. This is also because of religious teachings that say that it is not an acceptable activity. Since when did they get the right to say what we can and cannot do?

Now I apply it to my argument about same-sex marriage. Why is it illegal? I understand that the actual marriage ceremony is related to the church, but the 'civil unions' are done by the government with no relation to the church. Why then, can't all states allow a civil union? It is not done by the church, it is done by the government, yet is somehow still illegal due to the influence of the church? Is this a violation of the separation of church and state?

I may have gotten everything in the above argument wrong for some reason, but if I have not, can anyone else see this?

I will add more later, for a slightly different rant. That one tired me out, lol.

Adding some links to show something else. Some of my research has lead me to 'Pro-family' and 'Protectors of Traditional Values' groups. All I've seen of these groups is that they mislead the public with fear-based information.

This is just one article. Go to the main home page and scroll down, look at all of the things written in there. They can't stop talking about it! Is there any better way to make people fear those who are merely attracted to the same gender than to say they're after your children? Tsk tsk.

While looking, I also found this page, but I am happier with it since it, 1) Has no urgency about 'The Homosexual Agenda' and 2) Actually includes a list of arguments FOR Gay Marriage, and thus both sides are represented:
